Sports report for Aber Courier - Varsity
Hockey:
It was the women who kicked off Aber’s unrelenting effort to take the Varsity trophy back home by force, or at least by Hockey. The Women’s seconds started shakily after a stuffy three hour bus ride on what can only be described a freezing cold morning and with Bangor scoring early from open play, they forced Aber into some untidy saves in the opening ten minutes. Another swiftly followed but not to Aber’s lack of determination, and with Bangor 2-0 up they battled well in the middle of the park and looked promising on the counter despite continued pressure from Bangor’s well rested side to finish the half with the upper hand and only 2-0 down. The second half started all Aber; with shouts from the sidelines almost overpowering the home crowd, Aber continued to win tackles and hit Bangor on the break, particularly down the right flank, a shot narrowly missing the bottom right post which had the Bangor keeper beat.
